The other face of the desert

The other face of the desert - Paragliding along the coastal mountains near Pabellon de Pica during 2015 flowering desert event, The Atacama Desert, Iquique, Chile

Every ten or more years the coast of the Atacama desert receives rain. Then water runs down the coastal cliffs creating new channels. Then after a month seeds dormant for many years germinate and create a colorful carpet of plants and flowers. Seeing it from above while flying my paraglider is a visual experience. It lasts for a couple of months. Then the desert wins again and landscape changes to never-ending sands and rocks for the next ten or so years. If you want to see the flowering desert from the air there is still space at our paragliding tour to Iquique, Chile this November.
